Cups of Affirmation

I don’t often give out

words of affirmation.

I keep them to myself

like a strange superstition.

I’ll smile and give gifts

even a stray thumbs up.

But my words are like a trick,

One ball hidden under a cup.

You can guess if you want

try as you might,

but I’m the one who decides

if the ball sees the light.

I have the control.

The cups are mine to maneuver.

But maybe it’s time

to flip each one over.

Because then we’ll all see

that there’s more than one ball

and with every cup open

there’s enough words for us all.
