Week 39
October 3, 2016
Day 260
Exercise: Swim
Time: 40 minutes
Distance: 1.8 miles
I found myself racing the ten-year old girl in the lane next to me. She was faster than she looked, but I won pretty consistently. Obviously, I didn't tell her we were racing because I didn't want to seem weird, but that's not an excuse on her part. She lost fair and square.
Day 261
OFF
Day 262
Strength Day
It's too late for me to be jacked for the race, but I'm not throwing in the towel just yet. As the race gets closer, I've been thinking about things I did wrong when running the half, and the most obvious error I made was a lack of strength training. In an attempt to avoid repeating the past, these workouts are crucial. These days are huge for strengthening my core and back, which I will need come race day. Also, I did a few pull-ups today because I can...and by a few I mean two.
Day 263
Exercise: Bike/Run
Time: 1 hour/1 hour
Distance: 15 miles/6 miles
Starting to taper down as race week gets closer. It's funny that today felt like an easy workout. Nine months ago I would not have been able to do this.
Day 264
Exercise: Swim
Time: 40 minutes
Distance: 1.8 miles
I got a lot of water in my ear today. That's about as exciting as the pool got though.
Day 265
Exercise: Bike/Run
Time: 1 hour/30 minutes
Distance: 15 miles/3 miles
I feel great, but I can't help but be nervous. People keep asking me if I'm ready, and I truly don't know the answer. I've put in a lot of work, but I won't find out if it was enough until I get out there. And yes, it makes me nervous to think that I won't know whether or not I'm ready until I'm there, but I'm also eager to find out.
Day 266
OFF
Today marks the last day of full workouts, as I prepare to taper over the next week. One week until Race Day. I can't wait.
