Week 37
September 20, 2016
Day 246
Strength Day
For a second I thought I saw my abs early today, but I had queso at lunch and pizza for dinner, so I'm feeling extremely confident that whatever I saw today will be gone by the morning. I'm disappointed in my lack of dietary discipline and also in the red squiggly line under the word queso. I know I spelled queso right, and it's about time that word processors began to recognize that word for what it is: my diet's worst nightmare and my mouth's best friend.
Day 247
Exercise: Swim
Time: 30 minutes
Distance: 1 mile
My hands were abnormally pruney today, but that was about the only abnormal thing that happened. I swam at the gym this morning because I'm still scared that there are more snakes in our pool. I will conquer that fear one day, but that day is not today.
Day 248
Exercise: Bike/Run
Time: 1 hour 15 minutes/1 hour
Distance: 20 miles/6 miles
I was finally able to run 6 miles in under an hour after biking, so that was a boost for my confidence today. My goal for the race is to run 12 minutes miles (which will be a 5:30 marathon), so I should be able to go much faster during training. Today was a big step in feeling more comfortable with the run, but I still have some improvements to make in the next few weeks before I feel 100% confident.
Day 249
Exercise: Bike
Time: 1 hour
Distance: 15 miles
I finished reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire last night and woke up to an overcast and rainy day. My first thought was "Man, Voldemort's return has really affected the weather" and it wasn't until around lunchtime that I realized Voldemort wasn't really back and I had just been reading a book. Unfortunately, the return of the Dark Lord hung over my head all day, so I only got in a half-decent indoor bike session.
I was supposed to run as well, but with the weather and my scar hurting me, I couldn't quite get myself outside...
Day 250
Exercise: Run/Swim
Time: 1 hour 40 minutes/10 minutes
Distance: 10 miles/.3 miles
Two great things happened today. One, I ran ten 10-minute miles, so that was great. And two, I swam in our pool for the first time since the snake incident. Voldemort's return yesterday had me very paranoid that I might run into a snake (possibly even a basilisk) today, but I had a snake-free swim. That being said, there were still lots of leaves in the pool and every time I touched either a leaf or the hose from the pool vacuum cleaner, my heart nearly jumped out of my chest. For that reason, I only swam for ten minutes, but my heart rate was so high during those ten minutes that I think the exercise was the equivalent of swimming for an hour.
