Lonesome Dove

This is the most well-paced novel I’ve ever read. The timing of every scene and the arc of every character are nearly perfectly timed.

There’s really nothing not to love. The characters are simultaneously tragic and hilarious, the setting beautiful and horrific, the story engaging and exhausting. It’s a story of epic proportions with the feel of a warm log cabin.

At its core, the book is a journey. Obviously, that’s the plot of the novel, but journey also describes the reader’s experience. You get to hop onto the wagon with Bolivar, ride a horse behind Newt, and share a tent with Lorena. As the characters cover mile after mile, growing and changing along the way, so does the reader.

Lonesome Dove is a Western in every sense of the word, but it contains a depth that can apply to readers of all genres. Highly highly recommend.
